Recession-Proof Your Relationships

You almost have to have your head under a rock to not be aware of the rocky financial climate that we are currently living in. Everywhere you turn, the word recession is being used and for those truly pessimistic types, the word depression is being used. As the experts argue about the economy, us regular folks are getting worried. If the experts are up in arms, maybe we should be too. CLICK TITLE TO VIEW THE REST OF THE ARTICLE.

This worry is starting to seep into our everyday routines. One big thing that can be negatively affected are our relationships. Romance seems to suffer when the finances aren't in a favorable place. This is something I discovered recently when I met a nice guy who told me he wasn't in a place to date right now. Apparently women who live in Atlanta like to be taken out for dinner and he can't afford that right now. So we have parted ways, but I digress.

Although we may be accustomed to romantic relationships suffering when times get tough financially but we may not consider other relationships suffering as well. It is entirely possible that our friendships could suffer when times get tough. If you are going through financial straits but you feel like your friends are hanging in there, you may become jealous of them and the financial security that you perceive them having. Or you may feel like you have to pretend like you can maintain the lifestyle you had before your financial situation changed. This can cause resentment towards your friends as well.

If you are going through difficult financial times, try not to take it out on the people close to you. While you don't have to sit down with your friends and lay out your financial difficulties, be honest. Be conservative with your spending and focus on improving your financial situation. Let your friends know that you have to be conservative. They will understand if you have to cut back on your social spending.

In these shaky economic times, you have a lot of things to deal with on your own. Don't let your relationships suffer. Your relationships can be an important stabilizing factor in your life. Keep them strong and healthy. It will definitely help.

This was a great article. I swear the majority of people I have spoken too within the last month relationships have ended. The main reason I am hearing is stress and fighting b/c of money issues. People we are all going thru it seriously. The economy is fucked up in a major way. Don't let the recession end your relationship. Just think back to how your relationship was before the recession started this year and money was not an issue. If you were extremely happy at that time...hold on to that. That shows that you had a solid foundation. Try to communicate to your mate and help each other get thru the stress and strain of a recession. Don't add to the number of people who are no longer due to break ups. It is going around like a epidemic..

Porsche Foxx gone from V-103 again!

Porsche Foxx is gone from V-103 —Â again. Her boss Reggie Rouse sent out an email this morning confirming her departure.

I have no details otherwise. She’s already been taken off parts of the V-103 Web site, such as this list of Veejays. Her name is still floating about though on some pages.

Foxx was on air several years in the afternoon slot until late 2004. She was arrested for a DUI with pot possession and no license. She eventually had some jail time, probation and rehab.

. In 2007, V-103 gave her a second shot, this time at mid-days. She has been on for about 17 months. She’s had solid ratings, in line with the rest of the station, which is consistently No. 1.

Michael Strahan is staying retired

Michael Strahan is staying retired, although his agent said that the seven-time Pro Bowler seriously considered returning to the Super Bowl champion New York Giants.

"He was very close to returning, but the great part about Michael is that he takes his time to think about things and he is very thorough," Tony Agnone said in a telephone interview with The Associated Press on Tuesday night. "You can get excited about coming back and running through the tunnel one more time."

Agnone said that Strahan struggled deciding whether he could give 100 percent mentally.

"In the end, he felt he could not get back to where he was," Agnone said.

Rest in Peace- Isaac Hayes

Isaac Hayes, the singer and songwriter whose luxurious, strutting funk arrangements in songs like “Theme From ‘Shaft’ ” defined the glories and excesses of soul music in the early 1970s, died on Sunday in East Memphis, Tenn. He was 65. Mane I really miss him. He is the sole reason why I watched South Park. ~Click on the title to listen to SHAFT~ And here is the rest of it.

Rest in Peace-Bernie Mac

It is a sad day indeed. Funny man Bernie Mac passed on. I can think of many times when I was down and popped in a Bernie Mac movie that had me laughing like crazy. . In 2001, Fox gave Mac his own sitcom called, The Bernie Mac Show, somewhat based on his own life. In the show, he suddenly becomes custodian over his sister's three children after she enters rehab. It was a success, in part because it allows Mac to stay true to his stand-up comedy roots, breaking the fourth wall to communicate his thoughts to the audience. The show contained many parodies of events in Bernie's actual life. However, the show was not renewed after the 2006 season. Viewers were left without a conclusion for the series, and no ending to the storyline where Bernie and Wanda were trying to have a baby. His character on The Bernie Mac Show was ranked #47 in TV Guide's list of the "50 Greatest TV Dads of All Time." ~CLICK TITLE OF POST TO VIEW ALL~

John Edwards had a jump off *SMH*

Former Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards on Friday admitted to an extramarital affair while his wife was battling cancer. He denied fathering the woman's daughter. Edwards told ABC News that he lied repeatedly about the affair with 42-year-old Rielle Hunter but said that he didn't love her.

He said he has not taken a paternity test but knows he isn't the father because of the timing of the affair and the birth.

A former Edwards campaign staffer claims he is the father, not Edwards.
Hunter's daughter, Frances Quinn Hunter, was born on Feb. 27, 2008, and no father's name is given on the birth certificate filed in California.

Reminence-Dorothy Dandridge

She was a beautiful actress and singer whose star shone too briefly. Dorothy Dandridge, a fragile boned beauty with skin often described as "cafe au lait", was sadly a victim of her own circumstances.

She rose to the top of her profession with her first starring role and became the first black woman to receive an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress. But, just as fast as her success was achieved, so did it begin to fade ~Click the title of the post to view more..

Obama campaign rejects rapper Ludacris' rhymes

I love Luda. He does so much for the community and has a good head on his shoulder. With that being said... I'm like what was he thinking when he recorded the Obama track. I know his publicist is working overtime this morning. The song brags about an Obama presidency being destiny. It uses an expletive to describe Clinton, calls Bush "mentally handicapped" and says McCain doesn't belong in "any chair unless he's paralyzed."

"As Barack Obama has said many, many times in the past, rap lyrics today too often perpetuate misogyny, materialism, and degrading images that he doesn't want his daughters or any children exposed to," campaign spokesman Bill Burton said in an e-mail statement Wednesday.
"This song is not only outrageously offensive to Sen. Clinton, Rev. Jackson, Sen. McCain and President Bush, it is offensive to all of us who are trying to raise our children with the values we hold dear. While Ludacris is a talented individual he should be ashamed of these lyrics."

Think for yourself

If you expect to be told what or how without taking the time to understand why, then you can also expect to often be deceived.

When you are unwilling to think for yourself, there are plenty of people eagerly waiting to take advantage of you.

You have an extraordinarily powerful and capable mind. Go to the trouble and make the effort to make full use of it, particularly when it concerns your own affairs.

Life is increasingly complex, and you can't be expected to know every little detail about every little thing. But you will be vastly more effective when you take the time to learn the fundamental principles of what you're doing and utilize good, solid reasoning.

When it's your health, your money, your career, your property, your family or your future that's at stake, it's your responsibility to understand the situation. The person best suited to act in your best interest is you.

Certainly it is wise to seek the advice of experts. But stay away from anyone who promises to do your thinking for you.

Make the effort to be informed and then put that information to good, positive use. Think for yourself, and successfully live life on your own terms.

There is a way for you to make a positive difference today. Change the world in your own special way, and you'll find it to be an even more beautiful place to live. This day is filled with many possibilities, and you are here now to live them. A childhood friend of the woman prosecutors say appears in an explicit video at the center of R. Kelly's child pornography trial testified Wednesday that she recognizes her friend as the one in the tape.

The R&B superstar is accused of videotaping himself having sex with a girl as young as 13. His attorneys have said Kelly is not on the tape. The alleged victim, who is now 23, also denies she's the person in the video.

Prosecutors showed the footage within hours of opening statements Tuesday and now they're working to prove their claim that Kelly and the alleged victim are indeed in the video.. On Wednesday, Simha Jamison, 24, said she and the alleged victim were best friends for about 10 years until their junior year in high school — and that she knows her friend's face quite well.

When prosecutors asked Jamison if she recognized the man in the tape, she leaned forward in the witness stand, peeked around the corner of the judge's bench and identified Kelly.

She testified she and her friend visited Kelly at his recording studio and at a Chicago basketball court dozens of times, starting when they were around the age of 12.

Her friend first introduced her to Kelly as "her godfather," Jamison said, adding that the singer frequently gave her friend cash gifts — "no less than $100 and no more than $500."

She said the two also visited the home where authorities say the sex tape was filmed. Jamison said she saw the tape in 2002 and again just before testifying.

Make your choice

Often you are called upon to make decisions both big and small. Sometimes it is not clear which choice will bring the most positive value to your life.

Give care and thoughtful consideration to your decisions. But don't obsess over those decisions so much that you fail to make them.

Though it can at times be impossible to know which choice is best for you, it is usually very easy to know what the worst choice is. Almost always, the worst choice is to avoid making a choice. Life offers many attractive choices. And yet you cannot choose all of them at once.

Make your choice, and then put your commitment behind it. Even if it doesn't work out as you expected, at the very least you will have gained valuable knowledge and experience for making the next choice.

Each choice leads to other choices, and with every choice you improve your ability to wisely choose. Be consistently decisive, and the choices you make will bring real value into your world.

Atlanta Jazz Fest

In an effort to infuse arts and culture through jazz throughout metropolitan Atlanta, the City of Atlanta Office of Cultural Affairs (OCA) created its signature “31 Days of Jazz” series as a part of the Annual Atlanta Jazz Festival. Featuring partnerships with entertainment venues to celebrate Jazz in May, the goal is to bring jazz to diverse venues and raise the profile of the Atlanta Jazz Festival and its participating partners.

Charlotte is an alcoholic!

'Sex and the City' star Kristen Davis cannot even sip wine because she is an alcoholic. The actress, 43, admits she used love to drink wine but can no longer trust herself to stick to just one glass - so she prefers not to indulge at all.Davis told US tabloid the Globe she has been sober for 18 years and reveals therapy sessions helped her beat her habit.

"I am an alcoholic," she said. "I know people who have abused alcohol and now they can have one (drink) and they're fine and I respect that."I'd love to have a glass of wine, but what if I have another, then another? My life is too important for me to risk that."

I love to watch her character Charlotte on the many re runs of Sex in the City. It is not my place to judge anyone but this just goes to show no one is perfect. I applaud her for being public about it. Maybe she can help other people.

A Job Well Done

Even when all you can do is just a little bit, go ahead and do it, with all the care and commitment you can give to it. Even the smallest effort accomplishes much more than nothing.
Though it may take you a long time to finish, go ahead and get started. For if you delay, the work will take even longer.

Be willing to do the tedious and time-consuming jobs. For they are often what give substance and lasting value to the accomplishment.
A job well done is a job completed with enthusiasm, gratitude, focus and persistence. A job well done can add great value to your life and your world.

Putting forth effort toward a clear and meaningful goal brings a kind of satisfaction that cannot be reached in any other way. True fulfillment is yours when you've done the work to make it so.

A job well done brings your mind, body and spirit completely to life. And it provides the opportunity for another, even more fulfilling, job well done.

Go Syesha!

Well people 21 year old Syesha Mercado was voted off American Idol on 5/14 /2008. I typically don't watch AI but this young lady really caught my attention. She is extremely talented and humble. I wasn't that upset that she was voted off because I know she will still have a successful career. Look at Jennifer Hudson & Chris Daughtry. They did not win AI but have been extremely successful. Some people were saying that it was a race issue. Come on people, why is it everytime someone gets voted off that is black, you pull out the dang race card. Give me a break! Everything happens for a reason and I know this young lady will be more successful then the two finalist. Let keeps in mind she is gonna be on the Idols tour and will make a lot of money and the exposure she got on the show is so awesome. So don't feel sorry for Syesha. Just wanted to shot out another member of DarkSkin Sistas Unite. :-)

Who is Kenny Burns?

Well I have been living in Atlanta for 6 years now. I have been to many events and parties but I never had as much fun until I went to a Kenny Burns Party. I kept hearing this dude's name and didn't know who he was. When I say his name to other people outside of the industry they ask the same thing. Little did I know that Kenny Burns was 1/3 of the Rocafella franchise as well as a fashion designer & lifestyle specialist :-). Kenny is currently working on a reality tv show. I had the pleasure of going to a slamming party Kenny hosted at the Versace Mansion on South Beach. One word FIRE! The music was on point and most importantly the drinks where free. Word to the wise if you ever hear about a Kenny Burns event or have the privilege to attend one of his private events, GO!
Make sure to check out his myspace page. He is also featured in this month's edition of Atlanta Peach Magazine. I have included a couple of photos from the party at the Versace Mansion. Enjoy!

Wants and Needs

You do not get what you want, or even what you need. You get what you are.

When you want this or need that, you are supporting the reality that you do not have it. Instead of putting your energy into wanting or needing, put it into being.

By your thoughts and actions, with your words and feelings, you can choose how to be. Use that powerful choice to give energy, attention and the substance of your life to those things you value most.

Instead of working to convince the world that you need some particular thing, put your effort into expressing it through your own life. Give up the habit of wanting more, and put your energy into living exactly as you choose to live.

Through the miracle of your life in this moment right now, you already have access to all that is. Your challenge is not one of want or need, but of appreciating and making full use of all that is available to you.

Instead of pushing life's abundance away with your wants and needs, let that abundance freely flow through you. Always live according to the best you can envision, and know all the joyful treasures of life.
